Topic: Subtitle Workshop & WindowBlinds - Video Preview problems

I wanted to register and post a HEADS UP to all who are experiencing a blank video preview when they have installed WindowBlinds.

You need to add Subtitleworkshop's .exe to the list of excluded programs in WindowBlinds to get the video preview to work.

I had been pulling my hair out for a few weeks trying to figure out why the preview was blank.  After so much screwing around with different system
settings, I had my entire system so screwed up that I took the plunge and did a FORMAT C:\ and reinstalled from scratch.  The first thing I did before
anything else was install Subtitle Workshop and check the preview.  Everything worked after every driver install and software install until I got to WindowBlinds.  That is when I lost the preview.  After adding Subtitle Workshop to the list of files that WindowBlinds skins, the preview came back.

I hope this helps others who are having this problem.

Re: Subtitle Workshop & WindowBlinds - Video Preview problems

Thanks a lot, Bill! I've been trying to to solve this problems for weeks... as I did not try to use Subtitle Workshop without Windowblinds installed, I couldn't figure out what was going on. My bad.

Re: Subtitle Workshop & WindowBlinds - Video Preview problems

Hi,

I have the same problem but I don't have WindowBlinds.

After I installed FFDSHOW If I load a video that does not have any subtitle it plays it well but if the video has subtitle as a separate file then this problem shows up.

How can I fix this problem or how can I set the preview to use which codec?

Update:
I found the source of error: If the 2 files have the same name both ffdshow and direct Vobsub will load and conflict. If they don't have same name then direct vobsub will not load and it works but you have to load video and sub separately.

You can swith off automatic load of subtitles in one of these filters. wink Just explore filter settings.

Re: Subtitle Workshop & WindowBlinds - Video Preview problems

Hi all.

I just found this sw and started to test it. I got this problem and followed both instructions here (excluded from windowsblinds and change the .srt and .avi to have different names)  But I still has the issue. I cannot preview the video, just the subtitles.

I don't have any idea of what ffdshow nor vobsub are. are those within this software?

I am using vista also.

Thanks for any tip you may give to me.

Regards

Re: Subtitle Workshop & WindowBlinds - Video Preview problems

Just want to add, that Stardock software have some serious problems with SW in general. For a long time I was wondering why I have video preview only with .avi files encoded with XViD (anything else - just black screen with sound) - I have no idea why XViD works - until one day I turned off ObjectDock (from Stardock) and voilla - no problems with video preview at all. Using RK Launcher as a dock now and SW works perfectly.

Re: Subtitle Workshop & WindowBlinds - Video Preview problems

I would also like to add that this is not just an issue with Vista.  I'm using XP Pro, and after pulling my hair out for days and posting a query about no longer being able to see the preview I checked this thread, even though it seemed Vista oriented.  Sure as heck, changing the name of the subtitle so it's different from the movie name now gives me the movie in the preview window.  And I do have ffds and vobsub, both installed with the installation of other video software I'm sure.

I use to hide vobsub subtitles, but works good if i show then.

Re: Subtitle Workshop & WindowBlinds - Video Preview problems

Hey guys, just wanted to add my experience regarding the video preview problem. I tried just about everything to get the preview to work but nothing fixed it. I then read the comment made by Lain25 and Stardock's ObjectDock. When I read it, I shook my head and said "surely not", but I tried everything else so figured I'd give it a shot. I closed down ObjectDock and loadup up SW. To my dismay the video preview worked! Cant believe objectdock was the problem. Thanks for the tip Lain25.

Re: Subtitle Workshop & WindowBlinds - Video Preview problems

I solved my video preview problem by installing ac3 filter.

Re: Subtitle Workshop & WindowBlinds - Video Preview problems

Anyone knows why I see the video upside down? As in the preview is inverted and the people seem to be walking on the ceiling?
I can't seem to find the problem and it would be kinda useful to see it correctly.

Re: Subtitle Workshop & WindowBlinds - Video Preview problems

There is problem with blank video preview in Windows 7 beta, too. It occurs in SW 2.51, not 4 beta. Namely, the new Windows has .avi decoder built in, and for some reason, it can't display video in SW 2.51. Even if you install other decoders (ffdshow, xvid..), and explicitly assign it as default decoder,  built in decoder is still in charge. I check it with Graphedit. So, the solution is: go to /Windows/Sistem32 folder and take ownership of MP4SDECD.DLL. After that just rename it. I renamed mine in MP4SDECD_.DLL. Than ffdshow will take over .avi decoding, and video preview will work as usual.

That was simply great... took ownership, renamed, opened SW et voila! Subbing 7! You're my hero, believe it! Last question, if anyone can answer that, 7 (with CCCP Codec) would nearly be already perfect. The no video preview problem (audio worked!) occurred both in 2.51 and 4b4 and not in MPC. After the fix you explained, XVID encoded files are playing flawless both in MPC, SW 2.51 and SW 4b4. But x264 encoded videos are played properly only in MPC and SW 4b4, SW 2.51 (which I prefer over the 4b4) only shows blank (black, indeed! big_smile ) video preview and play normal audio. Any guess, anyone?

EDIT: please note that both XVID and x264 files are .AVI...

Re: Subtitle Workshop & WindowBlinds - Video Preview problems

Avi container doesn't support x264 video very well. Remix your x264 .avi files in .mkv container. MKV toolnix is a great free tool for that purpose. Than install Haali media splitter and ffdshow filter. Both are free, too. After that, you shouldn't have problem with video preview in SW 2.51.

Re: Subtitle Workshop & WindowBlinds - Video Preview problems

If U use Klite Codec Pack,Pls disable auto load DirectVobSub..
Here's how to do it :

All Programs/KLite Codec Pack/Configuration/DirectVobSub/General/Loading/Do Not Load (scroll down button)/Apply/OK

Violla.....

In such a conducive environment, no one has reason to behave differently and irrationally. Isn't it boring?    http://www.esleepmasters.com/Patio_and_ … s/2613.htm

Re: Subtitle Workshop & WindowBlinds - Video Preview problems

like accurate said-------------AC3Filter is a high quality free audio decoder and processor filter. It allows media players to playback movies with AC3 and DTS audio tracks. Also it can process any audio track, much of processing options allows to adjust the sound in almost any way. It is possible to upmix any audio source to 6 channels. Filter can do multi-channel and digital (SPDIF) output. It can encode any audio source to AC3 on-the-fly and send it over SPDIF to the receiver.
